Soukra at Brooklyn Museum’s Africa in Fashion | 2023

Internationally-recognized Lagos-based concept store Alára invites Soukra to participate in their pop-up shop at the Brooklyn Museum’s Africa in Fashion exhibition, June 23-October 22, 2023. Soukra and Tunisian brand Tinja are presented at the Alára pop-up alongside Africa’s most talented designers in fashion and decor.

Vogue calls this a “landmark show” with “the most extensive survey the city has yet seen of African design, music, and visual arts from the 1950s to today.”

The exhibition presents a dazzling array of garments alongside music and visual art, and celebrates the ingenuity and global impact of Africa’s fashions. The exhibition ends with Alára’s pop-up shop featuring fashion and objects from across the continent.

We are thrilled to have worked with them to provide Tinja’s terracotta designs, handmade by female potters in Sejnane, and hand painted in Tinja’s atelier in Tunis. So much of what Alára founder, Reni Folawiyo, speaks about in creating a platform and space for African designers to flourish resonates with Soukra founder, Pauline. We hope to see more international attention paid to Africa and its creative forces.
