Sejnenia

Sejnenia was founded in 2012 in the wake of the Tunisian Revolution as an economic interest group for women potters in the Sejnane region of Tunisia. Zeineb Farhat, Project Manager of Sejnenia, has developed skills training, marketing, product promotion, and advocacy, building the group from 35 to 100 participating women, ensuring a steady income for their families, and preserving Tunisia’s heritage. The craft of Sejnane pottery has been passed down from each generation of women for over 3,000 years. In 2018, the pottery skills of Sejnane were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recognizing the important role of their work in preserving traditional pottery, fostering community around an ancestral tradition and generating income for the region.
